WASHINGTON, D.C. — Seventh District Congressman D. French Slaughter Jr. urged the House and Senate conferees working on the Medicare Catastrophic Protection Act to adopt the House language to repeal the bill, including the seniors-only surtax.
“Slowly but surely, the Congress is bowing to the will of our senior citizens. Seniors have made it clear that they will not accept what amounts to higher taxes for health care benefits they did not ask for,” said Mr. Slaughter.
House and Senate conferees are working over differences in their respective catastrophic care bills. The House voted for outright repeal (except for popular Medicaid provisions), while the Senate measure was not as sweeping.
