the end of the meeting and before the board went into executive session, high school math teacher Helen LaCava told the board they should know that “not everyone in your employ agrees with the superintendent about binding arbitration. Binding arbitration as it will be before the General Assembly does not add one thing that will cost money,” she said. “It is not that kind of problem. ”
Outside, while the executive session was going on, Mrs. LaCava explained that currently if a tenured employee is dismissed and feels she has a grievance, she can ask for a panel to hear the grievance. The School Board has to pay for the expenses of the panel but does not have to take its recommendation.
