The 13th annual T rees of
Christmas exhibition opens
at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History on Dec. 15. The exhibition, produced by the Smithsonian s Office of Horticulture and the museum's Office of Exhibits, will continue through Jan. 2.1990.
Eleven trees, ranging in height from 8 to 12 feet, will be on view. These spruce and fir trees will be decorated primarily with handcrafted ornaments that illustrate a particular craft, tradition or style.
The theme trees this year include rCeramics — Practical and Decorative Finishing,” “Grandma's Christmas.” “Brass Animals on Parade." “Faces of the World," “Quilting Keepsakes.” “American Victorian,” “1984 White House Christmas Tree’ and “Handmade Fancies in Lace.”
Throughout the years, approximately 14,000 ornaments representing 89 different themes have been donated to the Office of Horticulture's Trees of Christmas collection.
The trees will be displayed on the second floor near the National Mall entrance to the museum. A free
