"For many families, cutting their own tree is a Christmas tradition. More and more families are making it part of their Christmas tradition “after finding out how much fun it is to pick out a tree on a Christmas tree farm," notes Catherine T. Belcher, who compiles the guides for the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. "Many of the tree farms are located near large urban centers such as Washington, D.C., and Richmond, where families may not have access to trees on their own property."
