Lectures at Gay St. theater

At 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1, at the Gay Street Theater, William Dietel will speak on “Poland - Prospects and Problems.” Mr. Dietel visited Poland in March and October to investigate and advise on the agricultural situation there. At 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 8, at the Gay St. Theater, John W. Kiser III, author of the recently published “Communist Entrepreneurs” and a frequent traveler on business in Eastern Europe and the USSR, will speak on “The Opening of the Eastern Block - Socialism in Disintegration or Renewal?” These lectures and discussions following are free and open to the public, sponsored by RAAC and The Rappahannock County Public Library.

When Harry Met Sally

The movie When Harry Met Sally will be playing at the Gay Street Theater at 7:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 25 and 26. Critically acclaimed director Rob Reiner takes a fresh and humorous look at falling in love. Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan star as long-time friends who decide to risk it all be taking a chance on romance. The movie is rated R.

Shooting match at CVFD

The Castleton Volunteer Fire Department is holding shooting matches every Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Castleton Fire House. Those wishing to participate are reminded they need to use 12-gauge shotguns only, no sleeves. For more information, call 937-6051.

Artist at Faith Mountain

Local artist Constance Guerra will be at The Faith Mountain Company Store to celebrate Sperryville’s Blue Ridge Christmas and the grand opening of its new retail space on Saturday, Nov. 25. She will be there between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to sign limited-edition pieces of her collectible Santa Claus and Christmas figurines.

Holiday giveaway planned

There will be a toys and clothes giveaway, 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Washington Fire Hall. Thanksgiving open house

Olive Mill’s Shops, along Route 231 in Banco, Madison County, will host an open house from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Nov. 24-26. The open house will feature traditional refreshments and special gift items for the whole family. For more information, call 703-923-4005.

Flint Hill VFD fundraiser

The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a gun raffle to raise money for the department. One gun will be given away for each of the next 12 months. Tickets are $20 each, are good for the entire 12-month period and are available from any Flint Hill VFD member. They may also be ordered by mail: send a check or money order payable to Flint Hill VFD, P.O. Box 150, Flint Hill, Va. 22627. Tickets will be sent by return mail.

Christmas bazaar

The Child Care and Learning Center will be holding its 4th annual Christmas bazaar from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2. Refreshments, local artists, crafts people, Santa Claus and lots more will be featured. For more information, call the center at 675-3237.

Aerobics at Amissville

Scandinavian Christmas

Scandia Touch gift shop, located in Olive Mill’s Shops, Route 231, Banco, Madison County, will feature its third annual Scandinavian Christmas celebration, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Dec. 2, 3, 9 and 10.
