"lien me county started its recycling program last year, I thought it was a great idea. I participated at each monthly recycling day, dutifully hauling my bottles and cans to the collection point at the county park outside Washington.
When the landfill opened, and the recycling center was established there, I supported that as well.
I still think recycling is a great idea and will become mcreasingly necessary as trash disposal becomes both more difficult and expensive.
Those observations aside, however, I must confess that I no longer participate in the county program.
Why? The answer is simple, and it’s selfish. In one word, it is inconvenient.
Now that recyclables must be hauled to the county landfill on the far side of Amissville, it takes the better part of an hour to drive to the landfill from my home in the F.T. Valley, dump off the goods and drive back.
I could stop by the landfill each Wednesday on. iny way to Warrenton to put together the newspaper, but the landfill and the recycling center •are closed that day.
I still take my newspapers — and all the old papers from the Rappahannock News office — to the truck at the Amissville fire department, because I can dump them off on my way to Warreinton.
I m sure that I’m not the only county resident in this situation. I’m not against recycling, and I want the county’s program to work.
But for the program to work, it has to be as easy as possible. That’s why I hope that the
