The National Museum of
American History will once
again reverberate with the ritual sounds and sights of Hanukkah, Christmas and the New Year when its annual Holiday Celebration begins on Dec. 26. continuing through Dec. 31. from noon to 4 p.m. daily.
The celebration is a festive observance of the many ethnic traditions that collectively make up the American holiday experience. Throughout the museum, musicians, storytellers, craftspeople and cooks will demonstrate the cultural diversity of the holidays.
New to the celebration this year is Kwanzaa, a unique American holiday that pays tribute to the rich African-American heritage. Kwanzaa, literally meaning ‘first fruits of the harvest’ is commemorated with a ceremony which will be performed in the museum daily.
Children from the Roots Activity Learning Center, an African American independent school, will be among the participants to perform the ceremony, which is central to Kwanzaa observance.
