Library jto try
again for grant

The Library Board of Trustees voted to at least submit an “intent to file an application” for state Title II funding for construction of the new library.
Chairman William Young said he had thought that there would be no funding for the program this year, but found out that $500,000 would again be available. The library board applied last year but was not one of the projects that received funding.
Dr. Young said officials on the state library board had urged Rappahannock to apply again.
Board member Mary Jamieson was concerned that applying for the grant funds not delay construction. Dr. Young said that it would be possible to apply for the funding even if construction had started and that, if necessary, the Library Board could ask potential contractors for two bids, one to include Federal funding and one without Federal monies.
If the new library is built with grant money, he explained, the contractor will have to pay wages according to a government schedule, which are higher than contractors usually pay locally.
