To the editor:
During our recent gubernatorial election several Fauquier County citizens collected signatures on a petition to change the method by which School Board members are chosen in our county.
Our petition would require a referendum to change from a judge-appointed School Board to a supervisor-appointed School Board because there is no other option available at this time.
Most voters did not know how the school board is “appointed,” or that Virginia does not even allow the election of board members. We discovered that most people strongly desire an elected School Board.
