To the editor:
Working for a large Department of Social Services has “hardened” me to the reality of such issues as physical and sexual abuse, substance abuse, and homelessness, at least more than many residents here.
Previously, when asked why I don’t move closer to my work, my response was the avoidance of a negative atmosphere for my daughter to grow up in. I felt good, no...proud, to say the harshities of the real world were not as prominent here. Now I am not so sure. *
I hear valid talk to children, yes children, with drugs in our elementary schools. Not just our high schools, but our elementary school.
I have a five-year-old daughter in kindergarten that I have had to explain to about drugs and alcohol, and what bad things they can do to your mind and body. I had to tell her that people can be bad, and not to accept
