Supervisor Chairman Hubert Gilkey read a letter from Donald Gore requesting that Route 681 be widened and hard-surfaced from Route 231 to Route 600. He offered to donate the necessary right-of-way where the road bordered his land.
Sharon Pierce, who lives on the section of Route 621 between Woodville and Route 231 said, “I like the dirt road. It gives the kids and animals a chance to get out of the way.” These road suggestions were all in Stonewall-Hawthom District.
In Piedmont District John Burke, pastor of the Gid Brown Baptist Church, said that Route 622, which runs past the church contains the “worst blacktop and dirt roads” in the county.
Albert Payne, who also lives on the road said, “It’s just like he said. It seems like Harris Hollow and the other hollows get help first.”
Mr. Moore replied that there was money in the budget to improve the hard-topped section of that road, perhaps starting this winter.
