Assistant Superintendent Robert Chappell also told the board he was encountering increasing frustration in trying to get the high school roof leaks repaired. Since the last time the manufacturer sent an inspector to look at the roof, new leaks have appeared above the computer lab, he said.
Dr. Gangel said a copy of the latest letter to the manufacturer, detailing the history of the problem, has been sent to the School Board’s attorney.
Dr. Gangel told the School Board the school system is required to certify that the Family Life Curriculum was in place. “We meet all the guidelines with one exception,” he said. “We are required to participate in training teleconferences sponsored by the Department of Education. I viewed them, and they stink. I didn’t have the heart to ask our teachers to watch that thing. I am telling them that we have not met that standard, and that is that.”
In other action the School Board:
• approved a senior class trip to Florida.
• authorized Dr. Gangel to sign a right-of-way agreement with the highway department for C and P Telephone Company’s lines.
• at Gary Leake’s request, relieved him of his assignment as baseball coach and appointed Dee Van Horn in his place.
• appointed Cheryl Mellott assistant track coach.
• delayed until next month final decision on making up days of school lost due to snow, but authorized Dr. Gangel to apply for “bank time” if necessary.
