It should now be clear to the owners of the Inn at Little Washington that their proposed expansion is unacceptable.
The reasons are obvious and were well vocalized at the Jan. 22 meeting. The obstacles to approval appear overwhelming; it would be necessary to discard most of the goals of an excellent comprehensive plan, make drastic zoning changes and reverse most of the guidelines of the Architectural Review Board.
That the church across the street was not permitted to replace its old tin roof with a copper one, despite the frequent use of copper roofing in the 18th and 19th centuries, is just one example of the resistance to even modest alteration. Environ
