“It’s a young team,” he said, adding that most of his experienced players, those having several years of volleyball experience, graduated leaving him with team that is building its strength and ability. “It takes time to build a winning team.”
Though their record will not place them into championship positions, coach Mellot explained their results are similiar to several other teams in the division.
Page County High School and Strasburg High School hold the coveted top positions, while the other six teams in the division share the middle. “Six teams are fairly equal” in their success, he explained.
Equal is not enough for coach Mellot. He’s building a better team.
“We are playing much better as a team,” he said, proud of his players, adding that the lengthy home game against Clark County Jan. 15 was one of their better so far, even though Rappahannock lost. “We played as a team, always coming back to their advances.”
In the last game against George Mason, the varsity team “came out like horses in a race,” the coach said, adding their loss was due to “poor
