Trapezoid will be appearing in concert at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Rappahannock High School.

The concert coincides with the release of “Wisdom of the Wood” on Narada/MCA Records, which features an instrumental performed by the group that was written by Trapezoid founder Paul Reisler. This is the latest release in a series of popular Narada collections that include the “Wilderness Collection” and “A Childhood Remembered.”

This album celebrates the relationship of music and instruments and includes a magazine style booklet with photos and commentaries from craftsmen, scholars and artists.

In the introduction to the booklet, Carleen Hutchins, who has been called the “Stradivari of the 20th century,” said: “In essence, the composer, the performer and the instrument are a unified whole, capable of transmitting thought and feeling of the highest degree through the sounds of the ages, sounds to which man has responded since the beginning of time.”

Mr. Reisler, who was an instrument maker for over 20 years, also wrote part of the introduction, which includes articles from such noted makers as C.F. Martin IV and Dana Bourgeois.

Trapezoid recorded “Big Salmon” for this project. It features Bob Read on soprano sax, Cheryl Hurwitz on violin and Mr. Reisler on guitar. Mr. Read was also the engineer and co-producer along with Mr. Reisler.

Mr. Reisler wrote the tune while on a 275-mile canoe trip on the Big Salmon River in the Yukon last summer. According to Mr. Reisler, “the tune was an echo of the rhythm of our paddling, the sounds of the water and the gradually shifting patterns of the eternal summer daylight.”

This will be the first opportunity for area residents to hear Trapezoid with their new singer, Martha Sandefer. She has worked as a professional studio singer and has recorded and toured extensively with former Paul Winter Consort member Jim Scott, as well as with the
