“Without Brad it would be very difficult to run the town, if possible at all,” according to Washington Mayor Dean Morehouse, calling Mr. Fisher “the glue that holds the administrative pieces together.”
“We have money in the bank. How many other jurisdictions can say that?” he asked. “We’re trying to match income to expenses, not the other way around.”
On the issue of growth, said Mr. Fisher, he takes a middle position. “I’d hate to see us become Manassas Park or Warrenton, with its many developments. But I don’t want to see the town die, either,” he said.
Since the Fishers moved in the town’s population has declined from about 230 to 196, and he fears that more of the older, residential homes will be turned into shops. In fact, about 10 percent of the present population consists of jail inmates, so the real population is only about 180.
