Espinola, Duisit
to play concert
at The Theatre
The Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community (RAAC) is sponsoring a special concert by Tom Espinola and Lorraine Duisit at the Theater at Washington, Va. at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23.
This welcome event will provide a new opportunity for local audiences to again enjoy two of their favorite entertainers, whose memorable musical performances have been well received over radio, on recorded albums and in live concert.
Surrounded by a circle of acoustic instruments, they play original and sophisticated music, which, drawing from many influences, “sneaks up out of old traditions and surprises you with new twists.”
Mr. Espinola has been described as a “storyteller on the mandolin,” demonstrating an “intensity of spirit and a uniquely personal vision.” A composer and a teacher of music for over 15 years, he has written for chamber, orchestral, theater, and dance groups, and has performed with a variety of ensembles from bluegrass to avant-garde.
Ms. Duisit toured for nine years and recorded extensively as a member of the folk group Trapezoid. Her album, “Hawks and Herons” was voted one of the finest folk albums of the year by the Washington Post, and Billboard magazine described her as an “impressively original talent.”
The music that results from this husband/wife duo’s combination of talents, which can be heard on their award-winning instrumental album “Feather River,” displays both “architectural complexity amT* shimmering organic beauty,” according to the Virginia Gazette.
Mr. Espinola’s and Ms. Duisit’s music has been showcased on National Public Radio productions “All Things Considered," “Mountain Stage,” “Good Evening” with Noah Adams, and “Voice of America,” and they have been well received at festivals and concerts throughout the United States. They live in Rappahannock County.
Tickets for this colorful concert are currently on sale at popular prices: $5 for RAAC members and $6 for all non-members.
