after it was announced. The minority party claims the Democrats are guilty of their second gerrymandering effort this year, after the redistricting of state General Assembly districts was accomplished in April.
“What they’re doing is packing Republican voters into four districts. They’re basically conceding four districts to us in the hopes that they can capture the other seven,” said Steve Haner, chairman of the state Republican Caucus.
Haner pointed to the Richmond area, which is included in three congressional districts weaving over to the eastern shore, north to Shenandoah County and in the 3rd District that follows narrow corridors both north and east.
