The only other correction is that Treasurer Frances Foster received 2,087 total votes in her unopposed bid for re-election. Precinct totals for Ms. Foster were all correct.
Mrs. Carney pointed out that in general the elections went off with few problems from the administrative end, and she was pleased with the way things went.
Final tallies in the 7th District race show the winner, Del. George Allen of Earlysville, getting about 102,000 votes to Ms. Slaughter’s approximately 57,000 votes. Independent John Torrice garnered about 5,300 votes. The percentage totals: Del. Allen, 62 percent; Ms. Slaughter, 35 percent; and Mr. Torrice, 3 percent.
Because Rappahannock still uses paper ballots, one of the few counties in the state that does, several write-in candidates appeared on the final tallies. Spelling mistakes (or apparent mistakes) are reprinted here in their original state.
