To the Editor:
In my days in the FBI I dealt with some of the most unsavory characters in the country. What a relief this past political campaign was in comparison. The voters of Rappahannock County were gracious, curious, interested, involved and concerned.
I enjoyed my days in Rappahannock County during the campaign season when I was soliciting your support. Now I will be back as your state senator soliciting your opinions, views and suggestions.
There are many vexing problems besetting our Commonwealth. No one person has all the answers, but there are answers to every problem. We just have to search for them together.
For those of you who supported me at the polls last Tuesday, I sincerely thank you. For all of you in the Stonewall-Hawthom District who . expect, and rightfully so, an open, responsive Virginia state senator, I will not disappoint you.

Son John
was prepared
To the Editor:
Our son John was a kindergarten student at Rappahannock County Elementary School last year. John’s experience at his new school will reassure every parent whose child is attending Rappahannock Elementary that his or her child is receiving an excellent education.
After living in Rappahannock County for one year, we moved to Princeton, N.J. The school system here has the reputation of being one of the finest in the country! We met with the principal of our son’s new school to discuss John’s year in kindergarten and his readiness for first grade.
Two weeks ago the first parent teacher conferences were held. We already had decided that John had been well prepared for the first grade, but we were delighted to have the teacher report how well he was doing in both reading and math. His teacher said she knew “he must have attended an academic kindergarten; he knows a lot.”
We want to express publicly our gratitude to John’s kindergarten teacher, Geraldine Payne, whose patience (truly above and beyond the call of duty) and professionalism gave John such a sound beginning.
