If the enrollment is over 1,010, the school system won’t be able to collect additional funds for those students unless the county increases its funds for the schools over the amount requested in the budget.

The board members supported Dr. Gangel’s recommendation to increase the amount the county pays into the Virginia Retirement System by paying the employees’ 5 percent share and to increase the amount contributed to group hospitalization but not fund step increases for teachers, teachers’ aides and bus drivers.

Dr. Gangel said the employees had voted 120 to 10 for that package over a package that included step increases and hospitalization increases but not the retirement contribution. '
