paying the 5 percent of the salary to the retirement system that the employees have been paying. About 100 other school systems in the state also offer this fringe benefit. The budget also includes a 22 percent increase in the employer’s contribution for health insurance, but this does not keep pace with the increase in premiums.
Administration and Health increased as a portion of the budget from 6.4 percent in the current budget to 6.6 percent in the proposed budget. In dollar amounts it is scheduled to go from $284,900 to to $1117,400.
About $3,600 of this increase is because this is the year when the school system has to survey all homes in the county to try to determine the number of children. About $3,200 is to pay the elementary assistant principal for a 12-month, rather than 11-month contract, by assigning her responsibility to oversee some federal programs. The superintendent’s salary will increase by about $2,200, and the other administrative salaries by $800 to bring the supplements for having a master’s degree to the same level as teachers.
