Dr. Gangel said he plans to hire a consultant to study space needs this summer. “We are a year ahead of where we thought we would be in terms of the numbers,” he said. “In the coming year we need to find the direction we want to go in expansion and start moving.”
Dr. Tole asked what would happen if the county went over the allowed class sizes.
Dr. Gangel said the school system would be legally liable if it went over allowed class sizes for special education. In terms of the regular classes he said the county wouklultimately risk losing state money, “but I know of school systems that have been out of compliance for a decade. They are good standards, and we want to comply with the law,” he added.
The board voted to accept a bid of $62,564 from Salem Quality Equipment for two new diesel buses for next year.
