On behalf of the Rappahannock Lions Club I want to thank the Rappahannock News for your generous and timely support to our Annual Bland Music Competition. This year's program was one of the best and your announcements helped us assemble a responsive audience.
At 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, John Toth called all participating student musicians into the Rappahannock High School front office and he and David Smith helped to hand out prize checks and certificates.
We apologized to soprano Melanie Moffett for a computation error that deprived her of the recognition due her on the day of the contest. Fortunately she could add as well as sing, so, to be fair to everyone, we awarded a tie and duplicate prizes for third place in the vocal category. Young Miss Moffett was most gracious and appeared to forgive us.
Thanks again for your fine cooperation with the Lions activities. The club appreciates your good work on behalf of our community.

of fundraising
To the Editor:
The Rappahannock County Library and the Friends of the Library would like to thank everyone who contributed or helped raise money for the Libri Foundation Grant for children’s books. The Mothering Cooperative deserves a special thank you. They helped “spread the word” of the grant, contributed individually, and held a wonderful bake sale that raised $93 for the grant.
Donations totaled $806. The Libri Foundation agreed to match $350 at a 2-to-l ratio. The balance of the money donated will be used to purchase additional children’s books. The library will receive 75 new, hardcover children’s books through the Libri Foundation’s Books for Children Program. These books should arrive in approximately six weeks.
Thank you all for your continuing support of the library and its programs.
