Chairman Eugene Leggett added, “They mentioned a fine of $25,000 per day. They were waving the threat of thousands of dollars and then say they’ll be good guys and reduce the fine to $8,000. We raised some points. You can’t apply the same fine to a community with 100 subscribers as one with thousands. It seems grossly not only unfair in the impact per person, but it doesn’t seem to contribute towards the goals everyone wants. We can eigher accept the figure or fight it and spend more money on costs associated with the gamble.”

Mr. Johnson countered, “A fine is for breaking the law. This may be a case of mismanagement or poor management, but it’s not a crime. If we were blatantly running raw sewage or there was evidence we caused damage to someone’s health..”

‘They have proof there was raw sewage running into the river," Charltes K. “Pete" Estes said. “He was our operator...Where’s the satisfaction? The point is to try to get out of this with as small an expenditure as possible.”

Mr. Leggett added, “We want to have the least impact on the individual subscribers in Sperry ville.”

“It’s going to make it unaffordable to the people of Sperry ville,” Mr. Johnson said.

The WSA also agreed to a field trip through the plant for high school earth science classes.
