mothers meet
A small group of home schooling mothers gathered Monday evening to make plans for the coming year.
The Home Educators Association of Rappahannock was organized last year and sponsored Spanish classes and meetings with various musicians in the county so their children could learn about making music.
This year some hope to find a way to continue the Spanish classes. Mostly, however, they said they want to explore ways their children can take part in some activities available to public school children. They mentioned specifically the Presidents Physical Fitness Awards, science fairs, and using the computer facilities at the schools.
They were also concerned that they have not been officially notified that their applications for home schooling have been approved although the School Board considered these requests at the August and September meetings.
They will also seek a clearer statement on the rights of home schoolers since they report different parents have received different information from "the school administration.
They plan to meet again next month after they have had a chance to do research on relations between home schoolers and other public school systems.
