SPERRYVILLE -The Appetite Repair Shop in Sperryville will add to the festivities of the Sperryville Harvest Festival by sponsoring along with Oldway Craft Village a raffle for a hot air balloon ride at Oldway Craft Village at noon on Oct. 3. Other activities sponsored by the two businesses will be glass-blowing demonstrations throughout the day, artists and metalurgists on site, music from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. by the Outt’a Hand Band and home-cooked barbecue and seafood. Individuals are invited to enter the drawing as many times as they would like, but must be present to win the balloon ride.
Demonstration planned
. SPERRYVILLE - The National Pro Life Life Chain will participate in a demonstration in Sperryville from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 4. Various churches will be participating and the public is invited as well. For more information, call Steve Young at 987-9517.
Wakefield magazine wins award
HUNTLY - For the 10th year in a row, the literary magazine from Wakefield School in Marshall has earned a top award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in New York City. CSPA, a division of Columbia University, annually judges magazines from all over the country. Wakefield’s “Talisman” has consistently scored in the very top percentages of all magazines judged. This year, “Talisman” received a Medalist rating which is higher than a First Place rating.
Additionally, “Talisman” was awarded two other All-Columbian awards, one for desgin and the other for creativity. Overall, the magazine earned 926 points out of a possible 1,000. The title of this year’s magazine was “Mediscus” and woven through the pages were visual and literacy references to the ancient word.
The editor-in chief of “Talisman” was Alison Martin. Other editors were Tiffany Kelsey, who is the editor for the 1993 book, Willia D’Angelo-Horvath, Michael Irani, Justin Harrell and Hamilton Holliday. The faculty advisors were Mrs. Lee Buratti and Mrs. Suzanne Wolfe.
