rents told about attending Sperryville Elementary (now the Emporium). It was a heartwarming day which made Room 9’s school family much closer.

Mrs. Striplin’s third grade class have been learning about biographies. They have been reading about Helen Keller. The students have also started learning Braille and Sign Language.

Mrs. Everett volunteered to help the students write their names in Braille. Another parent Sandra Hirth has given plants to beautify their classroom. Mrs. Striplin’s class have written her advice on how to be a good grandmother, as her first grandchild was born on Sept. 18. Amanda Weakley and Kevin Yowell received “Room 13 Trophy of the Week” Awards for outstanding work and behavior.

Mrs. Lee’s fifth grade class have been learning about World War II because they are reading “The Upstairs Room" by Johanna Reiss. The author, who is Jewish, hid with a Gentile farm family in Holland during the war.
