Bywaters receives award
CULPEPER - William D. Bywaters of Flint Hill recently received his 30-year award for service with the Virginia Department of Transportation. Mr. Bywaters, a former superintendent at the Washington, Va. area headquarters, is now maintenance manager at the Warrenton residency office.
Community center underway
Residents of Rappahannock County are one step closer to having a community center. On Sept. 17, six volunteers spent the day cleaning up a building in Washington, Va. that has been vacant for the past several years. The project called the Day of Caring was chosen by Angie White following a converstation with Louis Butler who informed her of a group of local citizens who wanted to see the old auction house return to its former use as a community center. Mrs. While recalled the building being used for May Day celebrations and place for high school and church activities.
Executive director of the Piedmont United Way Betty Roberts expressed thanks to the volunteers who participated in Rappahannock’s Day of Caring project: Michelene Hostetter, Shirley Hackley, Tony Green, Cindy Anderson, Angie White and Louis Butler. She also expressed thanks to the businesses who supported this project, including Faith Mountain, Country Cafe, Hackley’s Store, Dennis Store, Flint Hill Grocery, Baldwin’s Grocery and the Inn at Little Washington.
