SEA reunion
Howard and Helen Ziemer of Amissville and John and Betty Schultz of Washington spent Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Arlington attending the 28th reunion of the Silver Eagles Association (SEA).
SEA is a fraternal organization of former naval enlisted pilots of the Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard. Howard and John were former Navy enlisted pilots, both later earned commissions.
Between 1916 and 1947 approximately 5,000 naval enlisted pilots were trained, the last one retired in 1981. Many were commissioned and at least one attained the rank of Rear Admiral in the Navy. One Navy pilot was awarded the Medal of Honor for service in WW II.
Highlighting this years reunion was a wreath laying ceremony at the Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C. An Octoberfest dinner and entertainment was provided Friday and a banquet was held Saturday. A prayer breakfast Sunday morning closed the proceedings. Next years meeting will be in San Diego, Calif.
