On Wednesday the campers taking gardening learned about ways to protect their plants from insects without using insecticides. Karen Hathaway taught them to make bird feeders to attract birds to eat bugs. They each potted a basil plant to take home to put in the garden to keep insect pests away.
In the cooking class the campers learned to make Japanese stir-fry. Toni Updike brought an electric wok to use for the lesson.
By Thursday the rain had driven the campers in the archery, fishing and creek and critters under the shelter used for the other classes. “The noise level was up, but we managed,” Mrs. Smith said.
