Campers reported that they learned how to tell if water is clean or dirty at the Rappahannock River based on what animals live in it. Certain bugs and snails will only live in very clean water, they reported. They found the Rappahannock River near Huntly to be extremely clean.
The campers played “bat and moth.” The camper who is the bat is blindfolded and has to try to catch the moths using only sound. Jeremy Slack reported that he enjoyed learning to hypnotise a frog by holding it upside down and rubbing its belly.
This week the campers will do a microscopic study of pond water, paint pictures of the Rappahannock River to hang in the Library for the rest of this month, and finish camp with a hike in White Oak Canyon.
