This speech was given by Jay Kdtzen, Republican challenger for the 31st House of Delegates seat, on Sunday, July i, 1993 at the courthouse.
5: “...the land of the free and the home of the brave.” How blessed we are to be part of that wonderful family known as the American people: a family convinced since 1776 that there’s nothing freedom cannot do.
Out determined forebears, against all odds, defeated a colonial power bent on oppressive taxation. Less than a century later, we survived in unity a war which tore at our very hearts. And together, Americans transformed plains into the world’s granary, wilderness into mighty cities, trails into highways, sWamps to canals, rivers into enetgy, and our land’s natural beauty into a legacy for the future. All because we were free. We have defeated many foes who would take jtWay our liberty. Yet now, we find ourselves diluting that very individualism and freedom which make us g*eat.
At the same time other nations site throwing off the failed shackles ofcentralized government, there are those in our land who would impose them on us, who would replace entrepreneurs with administrators, arid businessmen by bureaucrats. It doesn’t work.
