The campers went back to their usual pavilion for a snack. Fortunately the rain had stopped. They passed other campers trying to get their rockets launched. Replacement batteries improved the success rate.
Then the campers headed for the pool for the Water Olympics. But the lifeguard had not appeared and the pool was closed. Junior counselor Mary Beth Williams led the campers in a song fest while they waited for the pool to open.
Once in the water the tribes again tried a relay race, this time with kick boards. Again in the heat of competition campers disregarded the rules. This was followed by a competition to see which team of five could cross the shallow end fastest hanging on to each others’ hands. The shortest campers enjoyed a free ride as the larger ones towed them across.
A covered dish lunch was followed by a program for parents and then campers left from another week at 4-H Day Camp.
4-H leaders are grateful for a $500 contribution from the local Farm Bureau. Part was used for scholarships for Day Camp. About half of the contribution will be used for scholarships for overnight camp July 11-15. “The Farm Bureau is very generous to make this donation every year,” Mrs. Smith said.
