New teachers have had a week of orientation to the Rappahannock School system and are eager for the new year to begin.
Charles Way will be teaching fifth grade, language arts and social studies. He has four years experience teaching fifth grade in the St. Frances School in central Pennsylvania. He said he came to Rappahannock because he wanted to be in a rural school system. He has an apartment in Washington.
He has a BS in elementary education from Mansfield State University in northern Pennsylvania. “I’m very impressed,” he said. “I’ve met nothing but nice people, and the scenery is the stuff I’ve seen in calendars...I feel lucky to be in a system like this.”
Christina Delobe will teach the alternative education program at the elementary school unless kindergarten enrollment requires a fifth section. She will also assist with varsity cheerleading and sponsor the Junior Panther cheerleaders. She grew up in Fairfax County and graduated with a BS in psychology from Longwood College in Farmville last year.
She had student teaching experience with “at-risk” students. She said she is enthusiastic about the alternative
