Kids, For Safe Microwaving:

•Never turn on an empty microwave oven; this can break the oven.

•Read package directions carefully. Make sure you know how to set the microwave controls.

•Use only microwave-safe cookware. Never place metal objects in the microwave, such as spoons or aluminum foil.

•If there are no directions, rotate food in the microwave and stir foods half-way through the recommended cooking time.

•Use pot holders to remove items from the microwave.

•If a dish is covered with plastic wrap or wax paper, turn up on corner to make a vent to let excess steam escape.

Finally, here are some specific tips for favorite food.

Pierce hot dogs and baked potatoes before cooking.

Break open jelly donuts and fruit pastries before eating.

Let the bag sit for several minutes before opening popcorn.
