Dr. and Mrs. A. Willis Dearing celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at the 9 a.m. Mass on Thursday, Aug. 4 at St. John’s Catholic Church. Following Mass, they were honored at a reception held in the Luray Avenue Parish Center.
Willis and Virginia were married on Aug. 4, 1924, by the Rev. Hinkle in the Bethlehem Chapel at the Washington Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
The Dearings were received into the Catholic Church at Easter in 1939 by the late Bishop Fulton J. Sheen at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. . Dr. Dearing is professor emeritus of chemistry where he taught for 36 years at Hunter College of the City University of New York.
