At the meeting the board agreed to spend up to $150 for materials to build shelving for books stored in the basement for book sales. The members debated paving the driveway and parking lots. Member John Hartline said he believed it would cost $25,000.
Chairman William Young said, “I’m totally opposed to asphalting fpr several reasons.” He said the bumps in the driveway help slow cars down. “We could scrape and regravel for 20 years for what it costs to pave,” he said. He added that traction on ice is fetter with gravel than pavement. He said paving would also require solutions to runoff problems. “My biggest problem is given the choice of how to spend $25,000, is this the best use for the money?” he said.
The board agreed to find costs for alternatives before making a decision, but menber Frank Warner said one problem with the gravel driveway is that it cannot be readily scraped when it snows because the gravel is pushed off the driveway into the ditches.
Member Roberta Anderson reported that the roof needs painting. She said that the original specifications only called for one coat, and at the time it was applied she was told there should probably be a second
