Millions of Americans are now covered by a variety of Governmental programs: Medicare, Medicaid, Champus, the Congressional program, Military and Veterans in-patient and out-patient coverage, among others we may not know about. Are those people willing to give up those coverages which thdy have earned and which are all tax supported and which are administered by the Government?

I have some suggestions that may help the recently approved five bedroom Bed & Breakfast in little Washington. Two weeks ago, the Rappahannock News reported that other B & B’s are less than thrilled with the new competition.
My first suggestion is, don’t discriminate against families with young children. Last winter, friends with a small child wanted to come out from D.C. to spend a night or two in the country. I learned that out of all the B & B’s in Rappahannock, only two accept children.
My next suggestion—offer reasonable rates. B & B rooms start at about $80 and go as high as $120 per night. This is not only tough on young families, it’s tough on retirees on fixed incomes.
My mother, recently retired, opted for a nice, clean Front Royal hotel room on a recent visit, a deal at $40 with a private bath. Of course, there was not the charm, views, quiet, etc. a room in a Rappahannock inn would have provided. But not everyone traveling through has those amenities as their only consideration.
More suggestions. What about off-season discounts? Mid-week versus weekend rates?
I have seen the inside of several B & B’s in the county. We are fortunate. They are truly a local treasure. But the way things are going, they will continue to be effectively offlimits to large segments of the population.
