education program. “It’s unusual to have that at the elementary level,” she said. “I’m optimistic; it’s a worthwhile program,” she said. She said she also had come to Rappahannock because she wanted to get away from the urban atmosphere in Fairfax.
Elizabeth Tower will teach gifted and talented students at both schools, but she said she will be working mainly in the elementary school and acting as a resource teacher at the high school, providing for independent study. Once the addition is completed at the elementary school, she will have her own room. Until then she will be visiting classes, working with students in regular classes and planning for her program.
She grew up in a rural area of New York and graduated from West Virginia University. She said she began working towards a masters degree in special education but plans to get one in gifted education. She taught pre-school children while working towards her masters. She said she feels comfortable in Rappahannock County. “It’s a lot like home to me,” she said.
