The plant arranged for a plant from Winchester to come in and interview employees, she said, and some would go to work there. The employees said they had also heard from people with the Virginia Employment Commission who said they could receive training and a chance to go back to school.
Nevertheless, it was apparent that many of the women were angry and frightened. One woman said she was 60 years old and had worked at the plant since it opened. “How am I going to get a job?” she wondered. She said the pension she would get for her years of work would pay her $88 per month.
