►Crash
From Page A-l
After they were placed in a van for transport to a medical examiner, about 10 members of the newspaper and television media were allowed to hike up the steep 300 feet to the crash site. They were accompanied by a park ranger and were allotted 15 minutes to photograph the scene, and were confined to a small area so as not to disturb anything.
Many personal items were strewn around the area, including flight maps, a pink cooler, playing cards, a sock hanging in a tree, and a small white and pink sneaker.
A salvage crew from the NTSB was scheduled to pick up the remains of the aircraft later in the day by helicopter. It was to be moved to another site for examination.
Ms. Johnson of the NTSB expects to have a preliminary report of the crash by the end of this week.
