fine of $2,500 for the possession charge; and 12 months in jail and a fine of $2,500 for the concealed weapon charge. Mr. Luke said that one reason for his plea agreement with Mr. Ramey was that he felt that the co-defendant in the case, one of two other people with Mr. Ramey when he was arrested, may be an unreliable witness. The third person with Mr. Ramey has since become his wife, and could not be called to testify against him.
Mr. Ramey had been stopped by Deputy Williams of the Rappahannock County Sheriffs Office on Route 618 in Castleton in February, 1993. One of the people in the vehicle with him was a minor who Mr. Ramey was charged with distributing PCP to. That juvenile, 16 years old, was later convicted in juvenile court of possession of PCP and marijuana, and he is now on probation. According to Mr. Luke, the mother of the juvenile told him that getting caught W88 the best thing that ever happened to her son; that he was now doing much better.
Upon release from the penetentiary, Mr. Ramey will be on supervised probation for three years. During that time, he must violate no laws, submit to alcohol and drug testing, and pay the court costs within six months. If he violates these terms of his probation, he could end up batik in the penetentiary to serve the suspended portion of his sentence.
