With school enrollment at the end of 10 days at 1,047, School Superintendent David Gangel told the School Board Tuesday night to expect about $51,000 in additional state aid.
This is the highest 10-day enrollment in the past six years. In 1992 it was 1,030. Last year it was 1,003. During others of the past years it was below 1.000.
However, most of the additional state aid will be needed to employ an additional elementary school special education teacher. Helen Williams, the administrator with primary responsibility for special education, said the administration decided they would need another teacher before they received news of increased state aid, simply on the basis of students expected to enroll. She said elementary school administrators checked with parents during the week before school started and decided the need would be there.
