Sept. 17 is the 208th anniversary of one of the most significant events in history, the signing of the United States Constitution. On this date in 1787, 39 men signed their names to a document which established the world’s first government of the people, by the people and for the people.

Today, the U.S. Constitution is the world’s oldest written instrument of national government. It is the corner-stone of the American republic, a symbol of our national ideals of freedom, justice and equal opportunity.
