Rappahannock scorers with nine points.
At Luray, the Panthers were led by Cari Kerr with seven points. Dawn Havstead and Kylene Wolfe added six points each.
Against Brentsville, Rappahannock managed only five points in the first half but played some of their best basketball of the season in the second half. Tamika Washington (11 points), Cari Kerr (10 points) and Dawn Havstead (8 points) led the way for Rappahannock.
At the Junior Varsity level, progress continues. The JV team was demolished by Central 71-5, but has played very well since then. The Panthers led for most of the game but lost to Manassas Park 19-17. They played Luray tight, but fell 37-32, and they lost to a more experienced Brentsville team 39-21.
Coach Emily Wingate has been pleased with how her team is coming along. “We’re young and inexperienced, but we’ve got some quality leaders in Tiffany Keys, Mandolin Ashby and Sonya Wiggington. Also we’re getting better at the fundamentals and starting to play together.”
Sonya has been tremendously impressive, and Coach Wingate attributes some of Sonya’s success to playing against boys at recess while at RCES.
Sonya and Alice Gentry are leading the team in scoring, averaging five points per game.
