Inspired by Greek mythology and fascinated by the eternal battle between male and female forces, Washington, D.C. composer Richard Squires has created a new work for music theatre. The first concert performance is at the Theatre at Washington at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23.
The Fall of Albion, for which Squires wrote the words as well as the music, is an allegorical musical drama. The Concert Suite from the work forms the first part of the program.
Igor Stranvinsky’s seldom performed work, L ’Histone du Soldat, constitutes the second half of the program. L’Historie du Soldat ox The Soldier's Tale; was written by Stravinsky immediately after the First World War in 1918. In the plot, the soldier’s violin plays a central role and the solo violin is important throughout.
