bridge causing the flood to wash out the bridge approach. “This is an example of seeding rock,” Mr. McCarthy said of an area between the road and the Rush River still covered with rock, but also covered with grass seed and a mulch of straw. The seeding and mulch were required by the NRCS specifications for the project.
In another area back from the road where it was hardly visible, was a dam made up of rock, mud, branches and everything else including a child’s tricycle. It was 30 feet long and 10 feet tall. Mr. McCarthy explained that would have been extremely dangerous in another flood, and the Forestry Service removed it. He said the Forestry service had been very helpful.
Most of the rock had piled up in the Rush River near areas where the river had jumped its banks and made another channel. Mr. McCarthy speculated that when that happened the force was reduced and the river dropped the rock it had been carrying.
