Feast Scheduled
Tickets are available for the fifteenth Annual Culpeper Duck Unlimited Seafood Feast and Barbecue.
The event will be held on Sept. 21 at Birmingham Farm beginning at 4 p.m. The public is welcome, tickets must be purchased in advance. For tickets and information, call 8294749.
“We expect tickets to sell quickly this year,” said committee co-chairman Danny Crigler. “Our committee earned statewide recognition in several areas last year, including best fund raising event. We’ve gotten a lot of interest for this year’s event from all over the state.”
Those wishing to attend are urged to buy their tickets early. Tickets sales are limited.
Early arrivals to the banquet wijl be treated to Eddie Gwyn’s steamed Chesapeake Bay crabs, steamed and raw oysters, and refreshments served alongside Birmingham Farms beautiful lake. At 5 p.m., Brian Jones will offer a demonstration of his skilled retrievers. The banquet opens at six, featuring Ed Gentry’s grilled beef tenderloin and V.K. Begoon’s famous barbecued pig and lamb, accompanied by side dishes, desserts, and beverages.
Through the afternoon, guests may visit with wildlife artists whose woi will be displayed in the auction tent. For those who can’t wait for the live auction to begin, an expanded silent auction will also be taking place.
After dinner, the live auction kicks off and will offer to the highest bidders a wide assortment of origiregl artwork, limited edition prints, gift items, clothing, guns and hunting accessories. The centerpieces of thfe live auction will be the 199S DU Gup of the. Year and a field-bred blaqjc Labrador Retriever puppy.
The ticket price for the event includes national membership in Ducks Unlimited, Inc. DU is a private, non-profit membership organic zation dedicated to wildlife conserva-' tion. Since its origin in 1937, DU has channeled nearly $900 million into conserving over 7 million acres of waterfowl habitat which is also shared by some 600 species of wildlife.
For its part, the Culpeper Chapter has produced over $230,000 in net revenue in its 14-year history.
Virginia has benefited through the Matching Aid to Restore State Habitats (MARSH) program which works on a cost-share program with the Virginif Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and the Department of Forestry.
