Although the injuries have hurt the Panthers, lack of experience is the reason that Rappahannock is 0-4 after four games. Rappahannock fell 66-24 at Central on September 5, lost a heartbreaker 39-38 to Manassas Park at home on Thursday, September 7, was beaten at Luray 61-21 on Monday night, and lost at Brentsville 45-33 on Tuesday.
At Central, Brenda Swinkels, an exchange student from Holland, scored the first Panther basket of the season, and eight Panthers netted at least two points.
Against Manassas Park, the Panthers found themselves down by a 24-17 score at the half. Some hustle plays by Tamika Washington and Jennifer Woodard at the end of the third quarter helped trim the Manassas Park lead to 32-27.
Rappahannock went on a 11-3 run to start the fourth quarter. Panther forwards Dawn Havstead and Sarah Gentry got big baskets to give Rappahannock its first lead since the first quarter and when Cari Kerr fed a cutting Angie Atkins for a lay up, the Panthers took a 38-35 lead with four minutes to go in the game.
